The rarefied history of video art is foreign to all but a niche group of amateurs and art-world types. When Santi Verge and friends first got their hands on portable video equipment in the late 80's, they made incredibly odd things. Most of those things remained in experimental until 2002—until, of course, internet video hosting exploded. Now, the strange history of video art is at your fingertip.

Y en cada proyecto y en cada trabajo acabas por enamorarte de ellas, para jamás olvidarlas, Marta, Elena, Ana, Olga, Silvia... Todo son colores y notas, risas y sueños. Podrán decir de un audiovisual social, "no es un trabajo bello, todos son iguales, es prescindible"... yo creo que se equivocan, que la belleza esta ahí fuera esperando ser capturada por una mirada de aquellos que aún creen en la belleza, nada existe más bello en el mundo que una mujer vestida de ilusión, vestida de novia, es una memoria en movimiento que el tiempo se encargará de retener en el tiempo. Entonces quizás sean ilusiones olvidadas, pasiones desatendidas o risas que ya no lo son.

Y no...porque fueron colores, risas y notas... incluso los grises, los blanco y negro, se hicieron en su combinación, absoluta belleza, aquel día.

Whether you love or despise this type of thing (lock and load your that's not art comments), the great thing is that before internet video sites took off, it was impossibly hard to view these kinds of works. You had to visit a university collection, or come across the videos in a gallery exhibition. When I was studying video art at University in the early 2000s, I would make bootlegs of my favorite tapes from old 3/4" tapes (a format preceding VHS). Now, it's an absolute treat to view these artifacts of art history—anywhere at any time
